Tips for the 3rd and 4th month of your pregnancy (weeks 9-16)
Mirthe GrootenWelcome to the transition from the first to the second trimester! For many women, this means less nausea, more energy, and a growing belly. You might even feel like you're truly pregnant for the first time—and you might even be able to enjoy it a little bit again.
These months, self-care is all about enjoying, connecting, and preparing . Your body is thriving, and you can flow with it. In this blog we explain what is happening to you, what is happening to your baby and give self-care tips to help.
What's happening to you?
- More energy: The placenta is now active and takes over many tasks. Your body has room to breathe.
- Less nausea: For many women, the worst symptoms disappear.
- Growing belly: Time for maternity clothes that make you feel comfortable and beautiful.
- First movements: Around week 16, you may feel your baby's first fluttering movements.
- Pregnancy Glow: Your skin can glow due to improved blood circulation (and yes, hormones, too).
Still feeling tired? That's perfectly normal. Every body follows its own rhythm.

What's happening to your baby?
Your baby is growing rapidly. Their organs are forming and starting to function. Your baby is already moving around freely and responding to touch—even though you're only just starting to feel it.
Self-care during these golden months
Rediscover your energy
- Move lightly and with pleasure: Think of pregnancy yoga, swimming or walks in nature. Listen to a handy (mommy-to-be) podcast at the same time. Unless you're swimming, of course.
- Enjoy socially: A lunch with friends, a movie night or quality time with your partner can work wonders.
Connect with your belly and baby
- Use belly oil: A natural care ritual that also helps against skin tension.
- Talk to your baby: Gentle touch and moments of calm create bonding.
- Do a guided meditation: Apps offer pregnancy visualizations that help you land in the moment.
Comfort and style can go hand in hand
- Invest in maternity clothes: Think of comfortable leggings, dresses and beautiful lingerie that also offers support.
- Choose comfortable shoes: Flat, cushioned shoes support your changing posture.
Treat yourself (you deserve it)
- Book a prenatal massage: Only with therapists experienced in pregnancy massage.
- Mini-babymoon: A quiet weekend away before the belly really gets big.
- Gentle skin care: Use hydrating masks or serums that are kind to your skin.

Start with light preparation
- Start planning your baby shower: Think about what you'd like – and let yourself be pampered! Organize your shower with fun, original games and keep track of everything in a clear planner. Keep track of your memories, too.
- Write down your wishes: for later, for yourself, for your postpartum period. This way, you create a sense of calm.
The third and fourth months are often a breath of fresh air. It's a time to recover from the first few weeks and prepare for what's to come. But above all, it's a time to reflect on the magic of growth—both inside and out.
