Tips for the 5th and 6th months of your pregnancy (weeks 17-24)
Mirthe GrootenYou're now in the heart of your pregnancy. Your belly is visibly growing, the kicks are getting stronger, and your baby is really starting to feel present. These months are all about connecting: with your baby, your changing body, and with yourself.
In this blog we explain what is happening to you, what is happening to your baby and give self-care tips to help.
What's happening to you?
- Strong baby movements: Those first flutters turn into distinct kicks – and maybe your partner can feel them now, too.
- Your belly is growing quickly: Your silhouette is changing and you may literally feel 'rounder'.
- New discomforts: Back and pelvic pain, heartburn, varicose veins or hemorrhoids may occur due to the increase in weight.
- 20-week ultrasound: A special moment when your baby is examined from head to toe.
Not everyone experiences this phase the same way. Feeling tired or tense? Take it seriously. Your body is doing something big.

What's happening to your baby?
Your baby is growing rapidly. Their senses are developing: they can hear your voice and heartbeat. Their lungs are maturing, their face is becoming more expressive, and a layer of fat is developing. A complete human being in the making!
Our tips for self-care:
Connect with your baby (and with yourself)
- Mindful belly moments: Lie down, place your hands on your belly, and feel the movements. Speak or sing softly. Your baby can hear you now.
- Listen to music together: Calm sounds are relaxing – for both of you.
- Pregnancy yoga or mindfulness: Helps you connect with your body and prepare for childbirth.
Belly & skin care
- Apply daily: Use natural oils or creams with vitamin E, almond oil, or shea butter. This soothes itching and supports skin elasticity.
- Moisturizing care for your entire body: Don't forget your legs, breasts and feet – a lot changes there too.
- Gentle shower products: Your skin can become more sensitive. Mild is better.
Self-care doesn't have to be grand. A few minutes of mindfulness a day can make a difference.
Comfort while sleeping & resting
- Pregnancy pillow: Supports your belly, back, and pelvis. Sleep preferably on your left side for optimal blood circulation.
- Silky soft sleep mask: For deep, undisturbed rest.
- Short breaks during the day: You don't have to be tired to take a break.
Relief from discomfort
- Swollen legs/ankles: Massage with cooling gel or elevate them briefly.
- Back pain: A heating pad in your lower back can provide relief.
- Heartburn: Eat smaller portions, chew slowly, and avoid fatty or spicy foods. Ginger or chamomile tea can help.

Time for a babymoon?
- Plan a quiet getaway: Now that you're often still feeling well, this is the perfect time to get away together.
- Consider pregnancy-safe treatments: Think of a facial, pedicure or massage – always tailored to your pregnancy.
Months 5 and 6 represent the gentle transition between the energy of the second trimester and preparation for the final phase. Take your growing belly seriously, listen to your body, and enjoy the magical kicks that bring you ever closer to your baby.
You carry new life. So give yourself everything you need—in gentleness, love, and comfort. Lots of love, My Sanctum.
